Sarah Medina
A resident of Atlanta, Ga., Sarah Medina is a self-taught artist who has been drawing since the age of two. She has written four children's books, which she is currently illustrating in the hope of one day publishing them. Sarah's two inspirations for donating to Healing Art Works are her mother, Anna, and her sister, Elizabeth. Before her mother died of cancer in 2006, she told Sarah to “find homes” for her work and “to make sure that what she does with her talent makes a difference.” With her involvement in Project 2007, she took her first steps towards doing just that. Her sister Elizabeth was a pediatric oncological nurse for seven years. Sarah decorated Elizabeth's white nurse's uniforms with colorful charaters, letters, pictures, and stories much to the delight of the young patients. Sarah incorporated some of these charaters into her submission pieces. Sarah reminds us, “It's impossible to take away all the hurt and all the anguish that fighting cancer brings. But you can start by bringing a little color to a smile.”
