Siv Spurgeon — Swarthmore, PA Siv Spurgeon grew up in Stockholm, Sweden, where she received her formal training in Structural Engineering. After moving to the United States in 1967, she spent many years working for architects and interior design firms before joining Knoll Inc. where she remained for 22 years.
She started painting watercolors in 1993 and has honed her skills with a variety of teachers at local and national workshops. Jean Grastorf, Judy Morris and James Toogood have been especially influential in her development as an artist.
Siv's watercolors reveal her fascination with the juxtaposition of elements, with the details rather than the whole. Her work often features dramatic, close-cropped views of objects found in everyday life, be it plants, boats, motorcycles or buildings. Complex and highly detailed subjects especially intrigue her.
Siv exhibits widely and is a frequent award winner. She is very active in the art community in southeastern Pennsylvania where she lives and currently serves as President for the Philadelphia Water Color Society. |
